The Boat O’Craigo Cabernet has complex characters of Cassis fruit, red currant and dark chocolate on the palate combine with long firm tannins to create a rich, ripe classic example of Yarra Valley Cabernet. Single block hand-picked and sorted from three possible blocks.
Whole berry wild fermentation in open pots. Left on skins for 7-10 days, seeded and pumped-over twice daily to extract optimum flavour and tannin. Pressed when dry. Matured in new (30%) and seasoned French oak for 18 months.
“The structural elements are paramount here though there’s no lack of fruit or indeed complexity. It’s a handsome wine, elegant too you’d argue. It tastes of blackcurrant and olives, bay leaves, mulch and tobacco, tannin then mowing through the finish. It will cellar well.” 94 points – James Halliday
50 acres of vines, spanning across two stunning sites, enables Boat O’Craigo to produce outstanding estate grown wines across a range of noble varieties.
Healesville is the cooler, more sheltered vineyard site nestled in the foothills of the Black Spur Ranges has alluvial river gravel soils and has perfect growing conditions for our early ripening varieties including Gewurztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir being the only red vines.
Kangaroo Ground is a warmer site on the western edge of the valley with its rich black volcanic, basalt soil, North East facing slope, giving it maximum sun is the home of our Black Cameron Shiraz, Braveheart Cabernet Sauvignon and several other red varietals even Grenache.
