Angoris was founded in 1648 when the Emperor of Austria Ferdinand III donates 300 fields with one of the most fertile soils to officer Locatello Locatelli for merits gained during battle in the Thirty-Year War. From this time on the quiet woods, green hills and gentle vineyards of the Angoris estate became a retreat for royalty from throughout the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The Villa Locatelli, which still dominates the estate, became a symbol of quality and hospitality and the wines that came from the estate made their way throughout the royal courts of Europe.
Over three centuries have passed and the Tenuta Angoris, one of the most prestigious Friulian wineries from time immemorial, is today managed with renewed enthusiasm and the entrepreneurial spirit of another Locatelli family.
Angoris now reaches out across 620 hectares (1530 acres) of land; 130 hectares (320 acres) of which are covered in vine. Unique among Friuli wineries is one important characteristic: we are the only winery to own land in all three important high-quality DOCs of Friuli: Isonzo, Collio and Colli Orientali del Friuli.
Our wines are made with 100% estate grown grapes and spread out in two different lines- “Villa Locatelli” and “Angoris”. Villa Locatelli are made from the Isonzo vineyards and are a great introduction to the wines from Friuli- fresh, mineral, aromatic and young; the wines are captivating while yet easy drinking. The Angoris wines come from our vineyards in the Collio and Colli Oriental DOCs- unquestionable home to Italy’s top white wines. The wines’ complexity, power, structure and depth clearly express the top potential of Friuli’s hillside lands.
